JAKARTA - Mayor of Cirebon, Nashrudin Azis asked BPBD to be prepared to anticipate natural disasters. Moreover, there has been the potential for extreme weather like recently.

"We immediately instructed BPBD to anticipate disasters, after the extreme weather warning from the BMKG," said Azis in Cirebon, Monday, October 10.

The city of Cirebon does have several points or locations where puddles often occur when it rains with high intensity. That's why there needs to be improvements and normalization of drainage and rivers.

According to him, when extreme weather occurs, of course, all parties must be aware, especially local governments, to ensure that their citizens remain safe from natural disasters.

"Drainage and rivers must be cleaned immediately, as well as normalized, so that when it rains it can accommodate the water discharge," he said.

The city of Cirebon, which is located downstream, said Azis, certainly has the potential to receive water shipments from upstream, so that when it rains upstream and downstream, the river capacity becomes heavier.

For this reason, it is necessary to normalize and clean rivers from any garbage or objects, so that the river flows smoothly.

In addition, trees that are already prone to falling must be maintained properly, one of which is by pruning the branches, so that when strong winds occur they do not fall.

Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Kertajati Station, Majalengka Regency released that Cirebon is included in an area that is at risk for natural disasters when extreme weather occurs.

"Cirebon is in the alert category, for that we need to prepare all parties for this extreme weather," said BMKG Weather Forecaster Kertajati Station Ahmad Faa Iziyn.
