Abu Dhabi Starts Implementing A 5G-Based Parking System, Change Paper Tickets With Electronic Tickets

JAKARTA - The Abu Dhabi Authority, United Arab Emirates, has begun to update its parking payment machine to the 5G smart system, which will gradually remove paper tickets.

The Integrated Transportation Center (ITC) said the new machine will issue an electronic ticket after Mawaqif's parking fee payment.

"Drivers who use machines can pay for parking by following the steps described on the screen," the official said.

Users choose the parking category, provide vehicle information and parking duration, then choose the Mawaqif card payment method, cash or credit card or debit.

"More than 1.200 devices will be upgraded with 5G technology, with the entire process complete before the end of the year," ITC said.

ITC says the removal of paper version parking tickets is part of its efforts to support the transformation of digital services, promoting an environmentally friendly lifestyle in the emirate.

In April, ITC announced motorists in Abu Dhabi could pay parking fees through its Darb application.

Drivers can recharge their accounts in the app and select vehicles and categories of parking spaces, standards or premiums, and the number of hours. The standard parking rate is 2 UAE dirhams or around IDR 8,325 per hour.

It is known, the Darb application can also be used to pay for the Abu Dhabi toll gate.

Interestingly, parking payments in Abu Dhabi can also be made via text message. Drivers must send to 3009 vehicle city codes and plate categories, followed by spaces, number plates, followed by spaces, S or P for standards or premiums, followed by spaces and duration within hours.

The city code is AUH for Abu Dhabi, DXB for Dubai, SHJ for Sharjah, AJM for Ajman, UAQ for Umm Al Quwain, RAK for Ras Al Khaimah and FUJ for Fujairah.
