JAKARTA - Happiness should be left over from the wedding party. But a wedding in Uttarakhand, North India, ended in tragedy.
At least 31 people have died after a bus carrying them as wedding guests fell into a deep ravine in northern India on Wednesday, October 5, as quoted by Channel News Asia.
The bus was indeed traveling along a treacherous mountain highway in Uttarakhand state. When turning on the edge, the bus fell 500 meters deep with dozens of people on board.
The state police said on Twitter that the rescue operation had ended with 31 bodies found and 19 injured passengers rescued.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that all assistance would be provided to the survivors.
"At this tragic time, my thoughts are with the bereaved families," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
Fatal traffic accidents are common in Uttarakhand, which covers part of the Indian Himalayas and is home to many religious pilgrimage sites.
