PPP Will Evaluate Positions In The Coalition, Anies Baswedan Is Assessed As A Factor For The Extension Of KIB

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the PPP DPP Arsul Sani said his party would evaluate its position in the United Indonesia Coalition (KIB) at the National Working Meeting which will be held at the end of 2022 or early 2023. This was conveyed by Arsul Sani at the Indonesian Muslim Cendekawan Association (ICMI) on Thursday, September 29. Of course, Arsul's statement made the existence of a coalition initiated by the Golkar Party, PAN and PPP also threatened. Allegedly, the name of the presidential candidate is the cause of PPP evaluating its existence in KIB. The Executive Director of the Institute for Democracy and Strategic Affairs (Indostrategic) A. Khoirul Umam, assesses that PPP is currently in a dilemma situation. Because according to him, PPP is more suitable to join the NasDem coalition, Democrats, and PKS. This, said Umam, is based on a number of things. The main thing is the possibility of the presidential candidate that will be carried, namely Anies Baswedan. "PPP will face a big dilemma. On the one hand, PPP will be more suitable to join the NasDem coalition, Democrats, and PKS, which will reportedly carry Anies as a presidential candidate," said Umam, Friday, September 30. According to Umam, when PPP brought Anies in the 2024 presidential election, the risk of split in the electoral base was relatively mitigating. Because Anies is identified with Islamic political forces. "By bringing Anies along, PPP will not experience split voting tickets and it is easier to consolidate its loyal voter base, considering that Anies is quite synonymous with the representation of Islamic political forces," he said. However, it is possible that PPP will move closer to PDIP, which is in need of moderate Islamic political authority legitimacy to fight in the 2024 presidential election. This possibility is also supported by a number of things, namely the condition of PKB and PAN. "On the other hand, PKB already has its own coalition orientation and PAN does not feel like it has strong chemistry with PDIP. In addition, PPP must also pay off debts to PDIP which are considered to have services in saving its party from the 'parliamentary threshold' degradation process in the 2019 election," he concluded.
