Kemenhub Ready To Collaborate For Safety Missions With Basarnas

JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi appreciates the preparedness of the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) in dealing with accident or disaster situations that can occur at any time. Especially in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ministry of Transportation is also ready to support the performance of Basarnas in humanitarian missions. In particular, marine fleets, such as ship transportation.

"The Ministry of Transportation has a number of fleets that are ready to be on standby if needed to support Basarnas 'humanitarian operations. Let us work together and work hand in hand," said the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya while inspecting Basarnas' KN Wisnu 103 Ship, Friday, November 27.

On this occasion, the Minister of Transportation Budi also had time to directly observe the modern facilities of the KN Wisnu 103 Ship which was inaugurated on March 3, 2020. The Minister hopes that later this ship can optimize the implementation of SAR operations so that it is more effective and efficient.

The KN Wisnu 103 ship is one of the ships owned by Basarnas which is equipped with various modern SAR equipment, including Remotely Operate Vehicle (ROV), Multibeam Echosaunder (MBES), Side Scan Sonar, and System Dynamic Position Zero (SDPZ).

The 66 meter long ship is also equipped with a helideck which has a fuel tank capacity of 500,000 liters and fresh water of 100,000 liters.

The function of this ship is to carry out liquefaction and relief operations in Java Sea waters and at the same time has the ability to become a logistics supply ship for other ships. This ship is expected to optimize the operation of SAR so that it is more effective and efficient.
