JAKARTA - Starting his tour of his second day of working visits in West Java, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, visited Majalengka Regency. He visited a village of processed fish craftsmen in Jati Tujuh District.

Puan's presence at the Prosperous Fish Rantegan Cooperative, Majalengka, Thursday, September 22, was warmly welcomed by hundreds of residents. The people of one village in this area are milkfish producers and processed fish products such as Bandeng Presto, Pindang, fish meatball crews, to pepes.

Puan then saw the Bandeng fish processing process at Mrs. Maryati's house, who is the Head of the Fish Cooperative Randengan Sejahtera. Not only seeing, Puan even helped prepare fish that would be processed into Bandeng Presto and other processed products.

After checking the fish processing in Mrs. Maryati's kitchen, Puan then met with fish processing craftsmen for dialogue. According to residents, they need 7 tons of fish for 277 members while producing.

"I've seen the process. The problem is that there is no cold storage. I saw the storage place for too long. Later we will send cold storage assistance," said Puan in her statement.

A number of residents expressed their aspirations and hopes that the fish processing industry in Majalengka will be more advanced. Puan also mentioned various main problems that are generally faced by the downstream industrial sector, such as processed fish, namely business capital, packaging, and sales.

"There must be a solution for these three problems from the Government and also members of the Council," said the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

Regarding business capital, Puan assessed that MSME actors should be given financial assistance from the State. In addition, the Government can also connect industry players with financial institutions with mild requirements.

"And the matter of packaging must be done in training because this is related to branding which can often make a product sold expensive or not," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding sales, processed fish craftsmen are said to need assistance in connecting with massive logging.

Even technological advances such as online markets must be utilized. Don't forget about the logistics distribution, it must be tidied up," concluded Puan.
