The Arrest Of Measurable Fish Minister Trenggono In Order To Protect Local Fishermen, 'You Must Be Host'

JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono ensured that the quota-based fishing policy must be carried out in order to protect traditional fishermen.

In a working meeting with Commission IV of the DPR, Trenggono received a response from the members of the council regarding the policy which was considered confusing.

He promised to immediately hold a focus group discussion (FGD) with council members to provide understanding and socialization about the policy.

"We will make FGD so that it can be clear, especially regarding measurable fishing. The intention is certain, there the mission is to make fishermen at that location the host. That is the intention," said Minister Trenggono, quoted from Antara, Thursday, September 22.

The implementation of measurable fishing which is a priority for the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) aims to improve the welfare of fishermen.

The fishing quota has been guaranteed by the KKP to prioritize the needs of small fishermen, then the remaining quota will be offered to investors so that there will be an increase in non-tax state revenues (PNBP).

Measurable fishing, continued Trenggono, is also considered to bring many positive multiplier effects. This starts from the growth of various new businesses that have an impact on employment, to equitable economic growth in various regions so that they are no longer concentrated on the island of Java.

"So the protection of fishermen, as well as the economic growth in the region. No longer Javanese but Indonesian centers," he added.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries targets the fishery Domestic Product (GDP) to grow 4-6 percent by 2023.

Other main performance indicators of the KKP in 2023 are fishery production 30.31 million tons, exports from fishery 7.6 billion US dollars, increasing the number of fish consumption to 61.02 kg/capita, Fisherman Exchange Rate 107, conservation area 29.1 million hectares and compliance percentage for marine and fishery business actors 97 percent.

There is also the implementation of measurable fishing based on quotas as one of the KKP's priority programs in 2023 to achieve these targets.
