Greetings From President Jokowi's Chinese New Year

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) expressed his Happy Chinese New Year 2571 through his social media accounts uploaded today, Saturday, January 25. This upload also includes a lion dance with the words Gong XI Fa Cai and several people playing lanterns.

"Hopefully all of us will be more prosperous, achieve our goals, be full of peace, and be more advanced," tweeted the President on his Twitter social media account.

The celebration of Chinese New Year as a holiday is determined by Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 18 of 2002 dated April 9, 2002. This Presidential Decree was issued by the fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

Chinese New Year has 12 different animals to represent the year. This 2020 Chinese New Year is the year of the rat, which was previously the year of the pig.
