Demonstration At KPU South Sulawesi Riots, 8 People Arrested For Forcing To Enter And Throw Stones At The Police

MAKASSAR - Police arrested 8 people demonstrating in front of the South Sulawesi (Sulsel) KPU office in Makassar. The masses also threw stones.

Head of Makassar Police Public Relations Sub-section, Kompol Supriady Idrus, said the eight people are still undergoing intensive examination.

"Eight people were arrested during a demonstration in front of the KPU and are still conducting investigations," said Supriady, who was contacted by VOI, Thursday, November 26.

The demonstration resulted in friction between the protesters and the police who prevented the crowd from entering the South Sulawesi KPU office area. The masses were supposed to force their way in to meet the South Sulawesi KPU commissioners directly. A crowd also threw stones at the police.

"It did hit, just not badly," he continued.

"What happened was he was a demonstration, he forced his way into the KPU, he just forced his way into the KPU, but was blocked by officers on duty at the KPU," he said.

The masses who carried out this action on behalf of the South Sulawesi Development Monitoring Agency (LPSS) and the Anti-Corruption Student Movement (Germak) demonstrated at the front. They demonstrated at the South Sulawesi KPU office, Jalan AP Pettarani with demands that the KPU commissioner for Baruu Regency be removed from his position.

"The demonstration was related to one of the regent candidates in Barru," said Supriady.
