Densus 88 Anti-Terror Arrests Bomb Builders At JW Marriott Hotel

JAKARTA - The Anti-Terror Special Detachment (Densus) 88 arrested suspected terrorist Taufik Bulaga alias Upik Lawanga in Lampung. He is a fugitive who is said to be a assembler of explosives in the terror bombings of Mega Kuningan, Hotel JW Marriott and Hotel Ritz-Carlton.

"So on 23 and 25 (November) Densus 88 Anti-terror has indeed taken action against the TB suspect alias Upik Lawanga," said Karo Penmas of the National Police's Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Awi Setiyono, to reporters, Thursday, November 26.

Not only did they catch the Mega Kuningan bomb fugitives, said Awi, Densus 88 also arrested several fugitives suspected of being terrorists from the Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) network. But it was not clearly explained the number and identity of the suspected terrorists.

"And some of the DPOs of the JI group. However, I cannot convey it to my colleagues," he said.

Even about the chronology of the arrests, Awi could not convey it. The reason is, there is no further information about this.

"We haven't got the complete data yet. Later, when we get the complete data from the Densus 88 anti-terror, we will convey it," he said.

For your information, Upik Lawanga alias Taufik Bulaga is said to have assembled a bomb during the explosion at the JW Marriott Hotel and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, in 2009.

In addition, Upik Lawanga is also suspected of having played a role in terrorism cases in Solo and Cirebon. However, it is not clear his role in the action.
