JAKARTA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi wants Kyya-Kya thin area on Jalan Kembang Jepun which was inaugurated on Saturday night to become an icon of the city of Surabaya.

"I hope Kyya-Kya will not only be a place that was opened and then after that it was finished... I'm sure it can be like Tunjungan Romansa and Susur Sungai Kalimas which continues to be an icon of Surabaya," he said as quoted by Antara, Sunday.

He said that Kyya-Kya visitors could ride a trishaw to go through the Pepinan area, see the houses of abuse and pagoda and enjoy Pepinan's specialties.

The mayor said that there were already 60 micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) selling in the Kyya-Kya fertilization area and 30 of them were residents around Kyya-Kya.

"Meanwhile, we will open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, starting with sunset until 22.00 WIB. However, we will also see the enthusiasm of the residents, if it is high, we may add more," said Eri.

He said the Surabaya City Government would continue to improve the Kyya-Kya fertilization area so that it could then become a choice of goals for tourists visiting the City of Heroes.

The city government and related stakeholders have agreed to extend the thin area and make the area along Jalan Kembang Jepun a tourist area and MSME outlets.

The mayor said that the city government also plans to repaint all buildings along Jalan Kembang Jepun using black, red, and gold paints.

"In addition, we will also install nameplates in all buildings. The signator will use Chinese writing later, and it means in Indonesian," he said.

He hopes that the Kyya-Kya fertilizing area can continue to develop and support the city's economic growth.
