TANJUNGPINANG - The Tanjungpinang City Environment Agency (DLH), Riau Islands Province (Kepri) has repaired a number of trash can containers that were damaged in stages. "This is done so as not to interfere with the performance of cleaning services in Tanjungpinang," said Head of the Tanjungpinang Environmental Service (DLH), Riono, quoted from Antara, Friday, September 9. The garbage containers belonging to DLH are spread over 37 locations. Of these, 55 are active. The details, 12 are in good condition, 27 are lightly damaged, 4 are moderately damaged, and 12 are heavily damaged, of which one tub can be rehabilitated and 11 are unable. "For the 2022 APBD, there are 7 like containers in the process of gradual improvement. We cannot at the same time fix it, because it will disrupt the performance of cleaning services," he said. In fact, he said, in the 2022 Revised APBD, the Mayor of Tanjungpinang Rahma was also committed to adding a budget of Rp. 1 billion to repair the trash containers. "We still need the trash can so that the repairs are carried out one by one. This means that one is repaired, one will be repaired, one will be good, another will enter, and so on," he said. In the midst of the current budget constraints of the city government, he said, DLH also appealed to the public to pay the cleaning/garbage levies. The community is expected to help the government to pay the waste levy. "Because, one of the results of the retribution will later be returned in the form of maintenance of infrastructure facilities, one of which is the garbage container," he said. He added that currently DLH is also handling location points that are used as places for illegal waste disposal. There are 33 illegal waste points spread across Tanjungpinang. His party has deployed officers to clean up piles of garbage at these points, but it only lasts a while, after that it is filled with wild garbage again. To overcome the problem of illegal waste, he continued, public awareness is needed not to litter. This behavior must be changed by throwing garbage in places that we have determined. "The problem with the emergence of wild waste points is a problem that is difficult to overcome if there is no cooperation from the community. It takes awareness from all of us to take care of the environment," said Riono.
