KEPRI - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Bintan Regency noted that at least 14 housing units were damaged due to heavy rains accompanied by tornadoes that hit South Toapaya Village, Riau Islands (Kepri).

"A total of 13 houses suffered minor damage and 1 house was heavily damaged," said Head of BPBD Bintan Ramlah in Bintan, Riau Islands, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, September 6.

Ramlah said that as an effort in handling the emergency response, his party had coordinated with the relevant agencies to monitor and review quickly.

BPBD Bintan together with local stakeholders also carried out a review of disaster locations and carried out disaster mitigation to anticipate high rainfall.

"We also recorded that the houses were damaged, because one house belonging to Dicky Zurkarnaen's brother was heavily damaged. The location is on Jalan Mangga Kampung Rawa Bangun, South Toapaya Village," said Ramlah.

According to him, heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that occurred on Monday, September 5 at around 12.00 WIB caused a tornado in Toapaya Selatan Village.

BPBD Bintan appealed to the public to remain vigilant and increase preparedness for the potential for natural disasters caused by high rainfall recently.

"Currently we are still focusing on carrying out a review of the disaster location while recording the losses suffered by the victims," said Ramlah.
