Customs, BNN And Police Seized 85.5 Kg Of Sabu From Combined Sea Operations

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Ministry of Finance together with the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the National Police Baharkam Police Corps secured 85.54 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. These drugs are from a joint marine operation that took place on November 10-21, 2020.

The purpose of this joint sea operation is to improve coordination between law enforcement officials to suppress drug trafficking by sea.

Director General of Customs and Excise, Heru Pambudi said that one of the real challenges for law enforcers is to supervise a large maritime border area and limited infrastructure.

"For this reason, there must be effective collaboration between other law enforcement officers in Indonesia," Heru said as quoted by Antara, Monday, November 23.

Heru explained that through the 2020 integrated interdiction sea operation, the joint team succeeded in uncovering five different cases, with a total of 20 suspects.

In addition to 85.54 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, a total of 10 other pieces of evidence confiscated were 10 packs of ecstasy containing 50,000 items weighing 23.11 kilograms and 29 packages of marijuana weighing 30 grams.

Each action consisted of 52 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Dumai waters on November 6, 2020, 33 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in Batam waters on November 12, 2020 and 541 grams of crystal methamphetamine in Batam on November 13, 2020.

Then, 23 kilograms of ecstasy in the waters of North Aceh on November 16, 2020, and 30 grams of marijuana and 0.3 grams of crystal methamphetamine in North Sumatra waters on November 17, 2020.

"This operation has also succeeded in making the syndicate cancel its intention to smuggle narcotics, thus indirectly preventing the entry of a large number of narcotics into the Republic of Indonesia," he said.

Until the end of the operation on November 21, 2020, 76 ships had examined and taken action against two ships and five narcotics arrests.

The results of the ship inspection generally contained fish cargoes, zero cargo and a small portion of mixed goods and logistics.

With this operation, Heru added that Customs had succeeded in uncovering 699 cases of narcotics during 2020 with a total weight of goods confiscated reaching 2.6 tons.

This achievement, according to him, increased in terms of the quantity of prosecution with the growth of cases reaching almost 37.6 percent.

"Of the 699 cases in 2020, the majority of prosecution was dominated by courier service companies with an increase of more than 100 percent compared to the previous year," he said.

Heru hopes that the synergy that has been established with BNN and Polairud Polri will continue to run to answer the real challenges that are getting tougher in the future.
