JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Johnny G.Plate welcomed the arrival of President Filpina HE Ferdinand Romuadez Marcos JR at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta International Airport marking the first visit of the island leader to Indonesia.

"I was assigned to pick up Mr. President Ferdinand Romuadez Marcos JR. His visit is certainly an honor for Indonesia," said Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny at Gedung VVIP Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang, after receiving a state visit from the President of the Philippines, Sunday.

According to Johnny, the visit of Philippine President Ferdinand Romuadez Marcos JR places Indonesia in a strategic position as a neighboring island country.

He also hopes that the visit of the President of the Philippines will create more cooperation that can be improved between Indonesia and the Philippines, including in the digital and telecommunications sectors.

"We certainly hope that there will be a lot of bilateral cooperation that we can do, considering that the geographical conditions of the Philippines and Indonesia in the ICT sector are almost similar. Indonesia is an archipelagic country, the Philippines is also an archipelagic country, almost the same," he said, quoted by Antara.

One of them is the use of Indonesian satellites for the Philippines which is expected to create new cooperation between the two countries.

Johnny also said that the plan was being prepared among telecommunications companies from the two countries.

"Next year we will launch twoHigh Throughput Satellite (HTS), with a capacity of 300Gigai byte per second which partly has the potential to be used by the Philippines," he explained.

It is hoped that if the cooperation can be achieved, more equal access will be created for many people considering that telecommunications connectivity is currently an important need.

He also assessed that cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines in the digital sector would be able to reach remote communities of the two countries.

"We can share these experiences with each other to find out how to reach the leading, outermost areas, behind both Indonesia and the Philippines," said Johnny.
