SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi evaluated the distribution of food aid for people with disabilities following complaints from residents during the "Sambat Nang Cak Eri" activity at Surabaya City Hall, Saturday, September 3. Eri said that there were a number of problems that were conveyed directly by residents during the "Sambat Nang Cak Eri" activity, including a person with disabilities who complained about the food assistance provided. "If I tend to not need food assistance for disabilities. Why? When parents or their families have decent income, actually this disability also gets decent food," said Eri, as quoted by Antara. Therefore, Eri stated that he immediately evaluated food assistance for persons with disabilities. Moreover, in a day, people with disabilities are only given one meal which he judged to be not educating. "So the disabilities whose income is below must be touched are parents with work. So he has decent income for his family," said Eri. He also explained that actually there is malnutrition or stunting babies, one of which is also caused by his family not having proper income. So that the family in the end cannot fulfill their needs. "What does this mean? Don't give additional food assistance. But the city government immediately touches their parents," he said. On the other hand, Eri stated, the government must also open up job opportunities. In this way, it is hoped that in the future they will have decent income and no longer depend on their lives to the government. "Don't let the mayor change, change the government, they do not have a decent income. So today, our job is to provide decent income to every parent," said Eri.

To people with disabilities, Mayor Eri also offered him to be a mentor or educator at home for children with achievements. Later, the house will become a gathering room for people with disabilities to develop their talents and interests. "We have prepared a house where people with disabilities gather. There are several disabilities that we make mentors and teachers with financing from the city government," he said. According to him, these mentors will encourage other people with disabilities. So they are also expected to have the desire to continue and not feel inferior. "So God willing, we will inaugurate this house in early September. I saw yesterday there were still some additional improvements," he said.
