Important Notes On The 2019 Election To Maximize The 2024 General Election

JAKARTA - The Executive Board of the Indonesian Islamic Student Movement (PB PMII) hopes that the 2019 election can be an important note for the General Elections Commission (KPU) in optimizing the implementation of the 2024 General Election. Secretary General (Sekjen) of PB PMII, Rafsanjani, expressed his hope during an audience with the Indonesian KPU in Jakarta to convey a number of important ideas as input.

"The implementation of the 2019 election must be an important note for election organizers such as the KPU in maximizing the 2024 election," said Rafsanjani, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, September 3.

In addition, his party also encourages the accessibility of logistics to areas outside Java, so that the Indonesian-centric narrative can be realized by the Government.

"For the 2024 election, PB PMII encourages and oversees a number of main issues in the implementation of the election, such as public participation, election corruption, ex-corruptors, campaigning on campus, and a number of other derivative issues," he explained.

Meanwhile, PB PMII Election Monitoring Coordinator Hasnu explained several critical notes on the results of monitoring each stage of the election implementation.

First, the PB PMII Election Monitoring Team highlighted incidents of profiteering of the names of organizers, both the KPU and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), even the names of residents being cadres of political parties.

"PB PMII election observers will report a number of political parties that do not comply with the Election Law and the KPU's rules of the game to Bawaslu; and will even process the matter into general crimes under the authority of the police," he said.

Second, PB PMII Election Observers also encourage ex-corrupt legislative candidates to receive special warnings through information on campaign props and ballots that the person concerned is a "former corruption convict".

"It is important for the KPU to do this as a form of political education to the public, as the owner of sovereignty, so that later our people are smart in choosing their leaders," said Hasnu.

Third, PB PMII Election Observers also continue to encourage the campus as a campaign space for political parties.

"Because actually rational voters are on campus," he added.

According to him, the campus must be a compass in the midst of a pragmatic democratic deadlock, high political costs, money politics issues, black campaigns, hoaxes, and racial, ethnic, and religious issues (SARA), as well as buzzer seduction patterns in leading public opinion to support the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

The actions of the buzzers on social media could mislead the public's common sense in making their political choices in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.

Member of the Indonesian KPU, Agus Mellaz, welcomed the presence of representatives of PB PMII. During the meeting, Agus said that the Indonesian KPU would place a cipayung group such as PB PMII as a strategic partner in maintaining election sovereignty.

August Mellaz acknowledged that the KPU has basic thoughts similar to PB PMII which are the main concentrations in every stage of monitoring in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections.

"The Indonesian KPU will establish a good relationship with PB PMII in order to jointly succeed in the 2024 Simultaneous Elections and Elections," he said.
