Foreign Tourists In Batam Are Dominated By Singaporeans, Indians And Chinese

BATAM - The Batam, Riau Islands Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted an increase in the number of foreign tourists visiting Batam during July 2022 as many as 57,139 visits.

Head of BPS Batam Rahmad Iswanto stated that the number of foreign tourists increased by 44.03 percent compared to the number of foreign tourists previously in June 2022 as many as 39,671 visits.

"Tourists who visit are still dominated by the first 4 countries, Singapore, then there are Malaysia, India, and China", said Rahmad in Batam, Riau Islands, Friday, September 2.

In July 2022, the number of visits by Singaporean foreign tourists to Batam City was 31,175 visits. Meanwhile, tourist visits with Malaysian nationals were 7,426 visits, India as many as 3,629 visits, China as many as 1,050 visits and followed by Philipina as many as 959, Australia as 499 visits, the United States as many as 530 visits, England as 479 visits, Japan as many as 451 visits and foreign tourists as many as 201 visits.

"Of the 10 most foreign tourists visiting Batam City, it is recorded that all foreign tourists experienced an increase in the number of visits in July 2022 when compared to the previous month", he said, quoted from Antara.

This positive result, said Rahmad, is expected to continue to increase in the following months considering the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in Batam is decreasing.

"I am optimistic that the increase in foreign tourist visits in Batam will continue to improve", he said.

The increasing number of foreign tourists said Rahmad, also provided positive results for the hotel occupancy rate in Batam.

"In July 2022, the Boarding School (TPK) of five-star hotels will average 41.35 percent, an increase compared to the previous months", he said.
