It Was Stated That Regarding Election Decree, Aung San Suu Kyi Was Sentenced To Three Years In Prison

JAKARTA - Former Myanmar leader ousted by Aung San Suu Kyi was again sentenced, after a series of previous sentences received since the February military coup last year.

Recently, Suu Kyi was found guilty of electoral fraud and sentenced to three years in prison by three judges on Friday, according to sources familiar with the process.

The nominees and Myanmar opposition figures to military rule over the past few decades have been detained by the military regime since the February 1, 2021 coup.

During that time, Suu Kyi has been sentenced to more than 17 years in prison for a number of accusations that all of them deny.

On Friday, he was judged to have committed fraud in the November 2020 General Election which was won by the National League for Democracy (NLD) with an extraordinary majority of legislators.

Sources, who declined to be named because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said it was unclear what would happen with forced labor.

Meanwhile, Win Myint, the president who was ousted and became a defendant together with Suu Kyi, was also sentenced to the same sentence, the source said.

A spokesman for the ruling military council did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Junta said Suu Kyi was undergoing legal proceedings.

The military under the leadership of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing launched a coup under the pretext of election fraud, preventing the National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung Suu Kyi from forming a new government.

Meanwhile, NLD denied allegations of fraud in the form of fraud in the 2020 election, saying they won the election fairly.

Suu Kyi has been on trial for more than a year on charges ranging from corruption and sedition to official secret leaking, with a maximum sentence of more than 190 years combined.

All cases against him, so far, have been carried out behind closed doors in the capital, Naypyitaw.

The junta's statement about the process has been limited. Meanwhile, the gag order has been imposed on Suu Kyi's lawyer.
