JAKARTA - A senior director of the World Health Organization (WHO) was'rested', a spokesman confirmed on Tuesday, following staff allegations of intimidation and other complaints.
"The Regional Director for the Western Pacific Region, Dr. Takeshi Kasai, is on leave," a WHO official said in an emailed comment, without providing details.
Two WHO sources confirmed to Reuters the decision to place Kasai on administrative leave is related to ongoing investigations into various staff complaints.
Kasai is a doctor from Japan. He has worked in the agency for more than 15 years
The Associated Press reported in January that complaints against the Kasai included allegations of racist language and sharing confidential vaccine data with Japan.
He previously acknowledged "hard on staff" but dismissed other charges.
