BALI - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin said audit institutions have an important role in managing the state financial budget, especially during crises and critical conditions.

This was conveyed by Vice President Ma'ruf Amin when giving a keynote address at the Supreme Audit Institution 20 (SAI20) Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali.

"SAI20 has a very important role as a guide for the government to maintain discipline in managing the state financial budget when facing various kinds of heavy pressure and precarious situations", said Vice President Ma'ruf Amin as quoted by Antara, Monday, August 29.

The SAI20 Summit is an engagement group initiated by the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) and attended by audit institutions of G20 member countries.

The SAI20 Summit will be held on August 29-30, 2022, which will be attended by 12 SAI member countries of the G20, namely Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, and Turkey. A total of 8 countries attended live and 4 countries attended virtually.

"Indonesia received the hammer of the G20 Presidency when countries in the world were trying to rise and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by a crisis due to international conflicts that required collective solutions based on the principles of multilateralism, inclusivity, and sustainability", said Vice President Ma'ruf.

Taking into account the crisis, according to the Vice President, the G20 Presidency of Indonesia encourages togetherness in finding solutions to global problems through the theme Recover Together, Recover Stronger.

"The various crises that barrage requires all countries to take unusual and immediate steps in which public budgets must be reallocated to deal with the impact of coercive priorities", the vice president added.

In the recovery process, according to the Vice President, the government needs the support of audit institutions to ensure that central programs for national economic recovery can be carried out in the right direction, namely reform of the social protection system, national health system, disaster resilience system, industry, tourism, and investment towards the green economy.

"The crisis has amplified the risk of achieving the SDGs agenda ("sustainable development goals") by widening the welfare disparity. As a strategic partner of the government, audit institutions also help ensure the shift of budget focus and resources to deal with the impact of the crisis so as not to cause the achievement of the government's big agendas, including The SDGs have stagnated, let alone setbacks", said the Vice President.

SAI20 carries two priority issues in line with the theme carried by Indonesia as the G20 Presidency, namely accelerating post-pandemic economic recovery and supporting the implementation of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

According to BPK Chairman Isma Yatun, SAI20 will produce two outputs, namely "rules of procedure" and a joint statement or communique related to accelerating economic recovery and supporting the achievement of the SDGs.
