Stewardess Protection, Yenny Wahid Factor Becoming A Commissioner At Garuda Indonesia

JAKARTA - State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir said the reason for the appointment of the 4th President Abdurrachman Wahid's son, Yenny Wahid, as the independent commissioner of PT Garuda Indonesia was to protect flight attendants on state-owned airlines.

"Mrs. Yenny doesn't need to be questioned. She is a good woman figure. With Mrs. Yenny, of course now a female flight attendant, front office, at least someone protects or someone can talk to," said Erick to reporters at the Ministry of Defense office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 23.

Moreover, said Erick, so far Yenny is known as a woman activist and is a firm figure. "Ms. Yenny has a clear background, and Ms. Yenny's position is an independent commissioner, public representative. Not anyone's representative. Public representative," he said.

Meanwhile, in a separate location, Yenny Wahid said that after he was appointed as the independent commissioner of PT Garuda Indonesia, Erick Thohir had conveyed several things that must be considered by him. One of them is the matter of improving the performance of the airlines, which are now said to be in a state of chaos.

"He only asked to help improve Garuda's performance. What is good is repaired again, perhaps we are still lacking in helping the supervisory function," Yenny said at the Kemenkopolhukam Office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Thursday, January 23.

This performance improvement, said Yenny, would be carried out by implementing good corporate governance and rearranging corporate governance to make it cleaner and more accountable.

Entering Garuda is like a sacrifice

Yenny Wahid said that his entry into the board of commissioners of PT Garuda Indonesia was a sacrifice. Because, he knew he would get a very heavy task. Moreover, the problems that ensnared the state-owned airline company were quite complicated, such as large debts.

"So when I joined Garuda, I certainly understand that the challenge is very big," he said.

He also asked the public to give time for this BUMN company to continue to improve. Because all the problems that exist in Garuda Indonesia cannot be resolved quickly. "The (internal) problem is so big that it cannot be resolved in the big time, of course it is a challenge," said Yenny.

As previously reported, the Garuda Indonesia Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) which was held on Wednesday, January 22 appointed a number of names as commissioners and directors of the state-owned company.
