MAKASSAR - The price of chicken eggs continues to creep up to reach Rp. 60 thousand per rack. This increase is allegedly the impact of the increase in the price of animal feed, especially laying hens in Makassar, South Sulawesi. "If the original price was Rp. 40 thousand per shelf, now Rp. 57 thousand to Rp. 60 per shelf, the increase was around 20 percent. He said, it went up because the price of chicken feed also rose," said Andika, a market trader for Toddopoli Makassar, Antara, Sunday, August 28. So far, the supply of chicken eggs from the regions has remained smooth, it's just that the price has soared over the last two weeks. The matter of buyers is still there even though the number is reduced from the usual day. "Sales go ahead, but there are not many buyers, only customers still come. We hope that the price of these broiler eggs will be stabilized soon," he said. Another broiler at Terong Market, Amir said, the price of chicken eggs since the last two weeks from Rp48 thousand rose to Rp58 thousand to Rp62 thousand. Meanwhile, duck eggs from the original Rp60 thousand rose to Rp85 thousand per rack. "It depends on the small egg. If it is above Rp. 60 thousand in medium size, it is small above Rp. 50 thousand. The supply is still available. The price of duck eggs also increases above Rp. 80 thousand," he said. Separately, a culinary Micro Small Business Entrepreneur (MSME) Andi Hajrah Murni revealed that the impact of the increase in egg prices had affected the production of her business. "We are starting to reduce the production of bolu cakes because the price of eggs has increased since the last two weeks. The profit is also confirmed to decrease the impact of the increase in egg prices," he said. He said that so far he has produced bolu cakes with the main raw materials for eggs and flour. For one shelf, it used to be IDR 55 thousand, but now it has increased to IDR 60 thousand. Even so, Hajra still maintains the quality of his products. "Our quality is to maintain it, but of course with the increase in egg prices, the shape and size of this bolu cake, we will adjust it later. The profit will definitely decrease, but I think we consider the increase in egg prices a cross subsidy, because usually the price of eggs in the fluctuating market, " he added.
