Old Town Street Vendors Get 2 Months Free Sales At The Ministry Of Finance

JAKARTA - The West Jakarta City Government has waived the rental fee for two months for Street Vendors (PKL) who occupy the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) building in Kota Tua on Jalan Kali Besar Timur.

"Because the management of the social spirit is high, so two months are free," said the sub-district head of Taman Sari, Agus Sulaeman, quoting Antara, Thursday, August 25.

Agus also said that the two-month facility without paying rent was provided so that street vendors would not feel burdened when occupying the Ministry of Finance building.

After two months, his party and the building manager will negotiate the monthly rental fee per kiosk with existing traders.

"Then we will discuss it. What is certain is that the price will not be in the millions and burden the residents," said Agus.

Currently, 70 street vendors in Kota Tua have registered to occupy kiosks in the Dutch-style building. The three leased buildings are estimated to be able to accommodate 130 street vendors stalls.

His party still opens opportunities for other Old Town street vendors to occupy the Ministry of Finance building.

While opening the opportunity, the West Jakarta (Jakbar) City Government (Pemkot) together with several collaborators are also making improvements inside the building so that it is suitable for street vendors to use.

"It is hoped that 80 percent of the repairs will be completed as soon as possible," he said.

Previously, there were more than 400 street vendors in Kota Tua who agreed to be moved to the Kota Intan Development Location (Lokbin) and the Cipta Niaga Taman Sari building.

The relocation of street vendors was carried out to beautify the Old City area. The relocation of street vendors is also part of the revitalization program for the Old City area that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is currently working on through the Highways Service.
