CILEGON - Cilegon Police have named 11 suspects in online and conventional gambling cases. Cilegon Police Chief AKBP Eko Tjahyo Untoro said the perpetrators were arrested when officers carried out gambling eradication operations in a number of locations within the jurisdiction of the Cilegon Police.

“Since August 4, 2022, we have carried out an operation to eradicate gambling in the jurisdiction of the Cilegon Police as an implementation of the direct orders of the National Police Chief and the Banten Police Chief to eradicate online or conventional gambling. We acted quickly to uncover the practice of gambling and managed to secure 11 suspects at different times and places with different modes,” explained AKBP Eko in a written statement, Wednesday, August 24.

Eko also explained that the arrests of the suspects began on August 4 in Jombang District, Cilegon Banten. At that location, the police arrested three people namely, W, S, and SA, who were directly involved in online gambling with evidence of cash amounting to IDR 724,000 and five cellphones.

"In a different place, we arrested 3 suspects with the initials M, D, and H in Anyer sub-district, Serang district. With the form of online gambling and 112,000 thousand evidence, 3 cellphones, and lottery notes. Then the third gambling is conventional gambling with the suspects W, S, SA, M, and D with evidence of money amounting to 2,100,000 rupiah and playing cards in Puloampel District," explained Eko.

As a result of their actions, the suspects were charged with Article 303 of the Criminal Code, with a threat of 10 years in prison.
