Police Arrest Woman Snatcher In Asemrowo Surabaya, Perpetrators Have Acted Dozens Of Times

SURABAYA - The Asemrowo Surabaya Police Sector Team arrested a man who used to steal in the Tanjung Perak area. The perpetrator with the initials AR, 19, usually carries out his actions with the help of a friend S, who is being hunted by the police.

"The suspect AR did not hesitate to injure the victim with violence," said the Head of the Asemrowo Surabaya Police, Kompol Hari Kurniawan, confirmed on Wednesday, August 24.

Hari said that the suspect AR was arrested on Monday, August 15 last week. At that time, the resident from Jalan Genting VI Surabaya was hanging out on Jalan Dupak Rukun Surabaya.

"The target of this robbery's operation are women, who usually carry bags such as sling bags," he said.

According to Hari, the arrest was made by the Asemrowo Police Criminal Investigation Unit team, after receiving information from the public regarding the rampant muggings in east Surabaya. The police conducted an investigation and pocketed the identities of the perpetrators, namely AR and S.

"Once arrested, this AR perpetrator admitted his actions. Even the person concerned admitted that he had committed 11 times of snatching," he said.

The suspect AR, continued Hari, always carries out his actions with S, who is now a fugitive. AR acts as an executor or goods taker, while S acts as a motorbike driver or jockey.

"So the perpetrator first drew a picture to see potential victims who could be snatched or not. As soon as there was an opportunity, the potential victim was followed and immediately pulled the victim's bag, even the victim fell," he said.

There were several pieces of evidence secured by the police from the hands of the suspect AR, including a box of Vivo cellphones, and a Honda Vario motorcycle. The suspect AR was charged with Article 365 of the Criminal Code regarding theft with violence, with a maximum criminal sentence of nine years in prison.
