Steps Of The Surabaya City Government To Anticipate The Monkeypox Virus

SURABAYA - The Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) has begun to prepare measures to anticipate the spread of the monkeypox virus or Monkeypox. This new virus is known to have been detected in Indonesia, which was announced on Saturday, August 20.

"To prevent transmission of the virus, we are monitoring global and regional information through the official one-stop information portal, namely the WHO and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia," said Head of the Surabaya City Health Office, Nanik Sukristina, in Surabaya, Tuesday, August 23.

Nanik said his party had been anticipating Monkeypox since last June, when the case became a global concern and was designated by WHO as a Public Health Emergency on 23 July 2022.

The Health Office has begun to increase awareness of Monkeypox through early observation and detection in all health care facilities, as well as laboratory examinations in accordance with the guidelines. In addition, it also conducts socialization about Monkeypox vigilance.

"Increasing alertness through observing the Event-Based Surveillance (EBS) report in the Early Alert and Response System (SKDR) application and detecting cases with Monkeypox symptoms that come to Health Facilities," he said.

At the Puskesmas, said Nanik, the Surabaya Health Office will strengthen Communication, Information and Education (KIE) to the people of the city of Surabaya to improve a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS). If there are people who are indicated by Monkeypox symptoms, they are expected to immediately come to the local health facility.

"We urge the entire community to immediately access the health facilities (local health centers) if they experience symptoms of Monkeypox," he said.
