Thousands Of Residents Affected By Floods And Landslides In Sorong City, Papua, City Government Intends To Open Emergency Response Post

WEST PAPUA - Floods and landslides hit the city of Sorong, West Papua. As a result, thousands of families were affected.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sorong City, Herlin Sasabone, said the Highways Agency had deployed heavy equipment to dredge the canals in flood-affected areas.

"Meanwhile, the Environment Agency provides transportation to transport waste," said Herlin in Sorong, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, August 23.

Herlin added that the Sorong City Government also intends to open a flood and landslide emergency response post to support the handling of natural disasters.

The command post is planned to be opened in the courtyard of the Sorong Mayor's Office to help residents who are facing the impact of floods and landslides.

Later the Poko will serve residents who need assistance and a place to evacuate. Including data collection of residents who suffered damage to their homes due to this natural disaster.

Herlin said that for assistance for residents affected by landslides and floods, the BPBD and the Social Service would prepare and distribute it.

For the time being, BPBD also appealed to residents of Sorong City to remain vigilant because rainfall is estimated to be high according to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
