Violating The Law While In Dumai Riau, 12 Bangladeshi Citizens 'Evicted' From Indonesia

PEKANBARU - The Immigration Office (Kanim) Class II TPI Dumai deported 12 Bangladeshi citizens to their home countries for violating the Immigration Act. These dozens of Bangladeshi citizens were previously detained by the Dumai Police.

These immigrants were secured because they would cross into Malaysia through illegal channels or not through the Immigration Checkpoints (TPI).

Initially, the authorities received reports from the public who suspected activities at a stopover hut around the Dumai-Sei Pakning causeway.

"In addition to deporting them, we will process them for deterrence measures. This means that they (12 Bangladeshi citizens) are prohibited from traveling to the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Jahari Sitepu in a written statement quoted by ANTARA, Monday, August 22.

He said Indonesia is a sovereign country. Therefore, there should be no foreign nationals who arbitrarily try to break the rules.

The Head of the Class II Kanim TPI Dumai Rejeki Putra Ginting explained that the Dumai Immigration officer would supervise the departure and deportation of 12 Bangladeshi citizens through Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta).

The departure starts from Pekanbaru SSK International Airport on Monday (22/8), at 06.20 WIB with Lion Air flight JT 393 to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport Jakarta.

The delegation of Kanim Dumai officers and Bangladeshi citizens who will be deported have departed from Dumai since Sunday (21/8), at 16.30 WIB and are staying in Pekanbaru.

"On arrival at Jakarta Soetta Airport, the deportation process will be carried out with 2 flights. This is due to the limited availability of departure tickets to Dhaka (Bangladesh)," he said.

Fortune said that on the first flight at 16.05 WIB, 3 Bangladeshi citizens would use Malaysia Airlines flight number MH 720 with the route Jakarta (Indonesia)-Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) - Dhaka (Bangladesh).

While the second flight at 16.20 WIB as many as 9 Bangladeshi citizens will depart using Malindo Airways flight OD 349 with the route Jakarta (Indonesia) - Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) - Dhaka (Bangladesh). All deportation costs are borne by Bangladeshi citizens and the embassy of the country concerned.
