High Mango Fan, Jokowi Wants To Boost Production In Gresik

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo asked for mango production in Gresik Regency, East Java, to be boosted again to meet domestic and export needs.

This was marked by the planting of mango seedlings on an area of 1,000 hectares in four sub-districts of Gresik Regency through the development of public and private food estates that were integrated with reservoirs.

"What we want is this production, it is planted now and it can produce fruit in about 3 years. Some are exported, some are for domestic use," said President Joko Widodo while planting mangoes in Gresik, East Java, as it was broadcast virtual through his account. Presidential Secretariat YouTube, Monday, August 22, reported by Antara.

The President explained that currently domestic mango production to meet export demand is still lacking.

According to President Jokowi, countries in the Middle East, Europe, China and Japan have demand for mangoes from Indonesia.

Therefore, the President ordered the expansion of mango production not only in Gresik Regency, but also in other regencies that have marginal land conditions for planting mangoes.

"I think there is a lot of demand, so we will start and later not only in Gresik Regency, but also in other regencies which roughly have marginal land conditions suitable for mangoes," said the President.

The Head of State also appreciated the mango plant barns in Gresik Regency which have good planting management, even downstream, such as assistance and production checks (quality control) of products that consumers will buy.

The launch of a mango-based food estate and an alsintan taxi in Penceng, Gresik Regency, Monday, is part of a series of working visits by the President on the second day in East Java.

Based on information from the Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta, after the launch of the food barn, the President will head to Larangan Market, Sidoarjo Regency to deliver a number of social assistance for the beneficiaries of the Family Hope Program (PKH) and traders.
