JAKARTA - A woman suspected of being a family member of two children whose bodies were found in a suitcase in New Zealand is in South Korea, Seoul police said Monday.

The woman, a Korean-born New Zealander, arrived in South Korea in 2018. She has no record of departure since then, a police officer told Reuters, as reported Aug. 22.

His whereabouts and whether he had any other relatives when he arrived in South Korea were not immediately known.

"New Zealand police have asked for confirmation as to whether the person who may be linked to the crime case is in South Korea," the police officer said, adding that given her address and age, she could be the child's mother.

New Zealand Police launched a homicide investigation in Auckland this month after the bodies of children were found by a family in suitcases purchased at auction.

The children were aged between 5 and 10 and had been dead for some time, New Zealand police said. Meanwhile, the family who found the body was not related to death.

Police did not provide details on how the children died or whether there were any suspects.
