Man Commits Suicide Because He Can't Get Permission To Marry From His Parents: Police Are Not Allowed To Check Victim's Cellphone

TANGERANG – The Ciledug Police are still trying to uncover the motive for Iqbal Tawakal (27) to end his life by jumping into the river from the Red Bridge, Thursday, August 18, at 19.00 WIB. However, based on the information gathered, the victim had told her friend that she (Iqbal) did not get the blessing of marriage from her parents.

"There was a story that his parents didn't approve of him marrying the woman of his choice. I didn't know it turned out to be like this (end his life by jumping into the river)," said a VOI source, Friday, August 19.

To confirm the news, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Ciledug Police, Iptu Ronald Sianipar, said that his party would trace the information of Iqbal's friends to find out the real motive. And so far there have been 3 witnesses who have been examined.

"There are three witnesses, there are residents and parents, the initials are M. His father said there was no problem," said Iptu Ronald to VOI.

Ronald also said that when his party wanted to check the victim's cellphone, his parents refused.

"I want to check it, who knows to talk to his friends. But the victim's parents didn't give it to him," he concluded.

The discovery of Iqbal's body at Kali Angke

The Jakarta SAR office found Iqbal Tawakal at Kali Angke, Jalan Sunan Giri, Pondok Bahar, RT 04/01, Pondok Bahar Village, Karang Tengah District, Tangerang City, Banten, Friday, August 19.

The head of the Jakarta SAR Office as the SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) in the SAR operation, Fazzli said, the victim was found dead at a radius of 1 KM from the scene.

"The victim's body was immediately evacuated to the funeral home located on Jalan Sunan Giri Pondok Bahar, RT 04/01, Pondok Bahar Village, Karang Tengah District, Tangerang City, Banten," said the Head of the Jakarta SAR Office as the SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) during the operation. When found, the victim's body was in the vicinity of Polor Dam. The search for victims has been carried out by a joint SAR team that has been carried out since Thursday, August 18, at night.

Previously, dozens of joint SAR teams were deployed to search for victims by visual observation via land routes up to a radius of 1 KM.

Based on witness statements, the victim allegedly jumped and eventually drowned from the Red Bridge into the Kali Angke Stream, Kita Tangerang. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 18, at 19.00 WIB.

"Finally the victim was found in the early hours of this morning. The combined SAR elements involved in the SAR operation consisted of the Jakarta SAR Office, Tangerang City Police, Ciledug Police, Ciledug Koramil, Tangerang City Firefighters, Tangerang City BPBD and others," he said.
