Demo Action Against Cakung – Cilincing Land Clearing Congests Roads In Front Of East Jakarta Mayor's Office

JAKARTA - Traffic flow on Jalan Dokter Sumarno, Cakung, precisely in front of the East Jakarta Mayor's Office, was congested due to the mass demonstration against land clearing in the Kampung Sawah Indah area, Pulo Gebang, Thursday, August 18.

It was seen at the location that until 10.30 WIB, the traffic flow from Pulo Gebang to Cakung was a little bogged down because some of the roads were used by the masses of the residents of Kampung Sawah Indah (WKSI).

Joint officers from the TNI-POLRI were also seen standing by in front of the East Jakarta Mayor's Office to secure the demonstration.

The crowd started moving from Jalan Raya Cakung Cilincing Timur, Cakung, East Jakarta, to the Mayor's Office on foot since 08.00 WIB.

Arriving in front of the East Jakarta Mayor's Office, the masses immediately held a speech refusing to vacate the land where they live and earn a living.

The crowd who came to refuse the clearing of the land were also seen carrying a number of attributes, such as a banner containing a request for protection to President Joko Widodo against the land mafia.

Previously, residents had carried out road blockades on Jalan Raya Cakung Cilincing Timur, Cakung, East Jakarta. They rejected the land clearing plan.

Cakung Sector Police Chief Kompol Syarifah Chaira said that his party together with elements of the three pillars came to the location to provide a second subpoena regarding the clearing of land that had been decided in court.

"We from the three pillars carry out security related to the second subpoena for residents," said Syarifah.

Residents refused to vacate the land because they had occupied the location since the 1990s.
