Broken Window, Dozens Of Jayapura Police Prisoners Escaped

JAKARTA - Kapolresta Jayapura City AKBP Gustav Urbinas confirmed that as many as 14 prisoners his party managed to escape by breaking into the window of the detention room on the second floor.

The detainees escaped on Tuesday, November 17 in the morning, at around 02.20 WIT and managed to escape, after breaking through the window and going out through the main gate.

"Members are still searching for the detainees who escaped," said AKBP Urbinas, in Jayapura, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, November 18.

He explained that due to the escape of 14 prisoners, 13 of the 30 members on duty at that time had been examined by Propam.

The escape of the 14 prisoners was the negligence of the personnel on duty, be it the function of guard pickets, base pickets, and other functions.

The incident occurred because of the negligence of the picket officers at the time, said Gustav, adding that currently a team had been formed to pursue the detainees.

Based on CCTV monitoring, it was revealed that the escape attempt was carried out between 02.20 WIT to 03.07 WIT, and was carried out in stages so as not to arouse suspicion among officers in the main picket room.

The action was only discovered when four prisoners who tried to escape were discovered by the picket officers until they were stopped, but they managed to escape to the shopping center next to the Jayapura City Police Headquarters.

A total of 14 detainees who escaped consisted of drug case prisoners and criminal investigators each, three people, and eight prisoners entrusted by prosecutors, said AKBP Urbinas.
