In Front Of The Minister Of Trade Zulhas, Speaker Of The House Of Representatives: Never Again Rare Cooking Oil Happens In Your Own Country

JAKARTA - The Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has warned that there is no longer any rare cooking oil in the country. He asked the government to increase food productivity so that the welfare of farmers should be strengthened.

This was conveyed by Puan in front of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, and Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan as well as other ministers and heads of institutions while addressing the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI today, Tuesday, August 16.

He reminded that Indonesia is one of the largest producing countries for palm oil or crude palm oil (CPO). So, the scarcity of cooking oil like what happened some time ago should no longer happen.

"In the future, there will be no more problems such as the scarcity of cooking oil in our own country, which is the largest CPO producing country in the world," said Puan at the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

Furthermore, Puan reminded the government to stand on its own feet. Indonesia should not only be the target market for foreign products.

Indonesia, continued Puan, should not just be a worker. All without exception should be proud to use the products of the nation's children.

"We don't want to be the only target market for foreign products; we want to be independent in the economy through national industry," he said.

"We also don't want the Indonesian people to only be coolies in their own country. We must be proud to use the products of the Indonesian people," he concluded.
