Surya Darmadi's Attorney Considers Pretrial

JAKARTA - Surya Darmadi's lawyer, Juniver Girsang, will look into the possibility of a pretrial filing related to the case that ensnared his client. The owner of PT Duta Palma Group is a suspect in alleged corruption in land grabbing in Riau.

"(Pretrial efforts, ed) will be investigated later," Juniver told reporters at the Attorney General's Office complex, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Monday, August 15.

Juniver ensures that his clients are cooperative and will follow all ongoing legal processes. He also denied his client ran away.

In fact, Juniver said that Surya is now voluntarily coming to Indonesia even though he is undergoing health treatment.

"The information about escaping is not true. It is proven that after being called and receiving the call, he coordinated with us. Then we urge him to come to defend himself," he said.

"Once again, this presence proves that our client is very cooperative and will follow all the (legal, red) processes," Juniver continued.

Previously, the Attorney General's Office named Surya Darmadi as the owner of PT Duta Palma Group as a suspect in alleged corruption in the seizure of 37,095 hectares of land in Riau. He was named along with another suspect, Raja Thamsir Rahman who is a former regent of Indragiri Hulu.

Meanwhile at the KPK, Surya Darmadi has been named a suspect since 2019. This determination was made after investigators developed a case against former Riau Governor Annas Maamun.

Surya has actually been absent from several investigations by the Attorney General's Office. It was only today, Monday, August 15 that he arrived in the country.

This businessman returned to the country by boarding a China Airlines flight CI 761 on the Taipei route to Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Cengkareng.
