MAKASSAR - The second debate on the Makassar Pilkada will be held again in Jakarta. There are a number of reasons including the security red zone in Makassar.

"It will be held in Jakarta, the time has not been determined because it has not been plenary," said KPU commissioner Makassar Abdul Rahman when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, November 17.

Abdul explained that this decision was discussed in the coordination meeting for the preparation of the second phase of the Makassar Pilkada debate with Bawaslu and the Makassar Police.

Kapolrestabes Makassar Kombes Witnu Urip Laksana, according to Abdul Rahman, conveyed the considerations and results of studies related to the potential for vulnerability and security in the Makassar Pilkada.

"Several points of consideration: a. health issues for enforcement of the COVID-19 protocol as stated in the Chief of Police's declaration and also in PKPU 13 of 2020; b. moral issues; c. Security issues, the potential for friction between supporters is very likely to occur, "said Abdul, mentioning the results of the police study.

In addition, it also mentions the issue of the pilkada vulnerability index which is always updated by the police. Therefore, it is recommended that the Makassar Pilkada debate be held outside the city.

"The city of Makassar is always in the red zone as a vulnerable area," continued Abdul.

Meanwhile, member of Bawaslu Makassar Sri Wahyuningsih conveyed a similar Bawaslu recommendation. The Makassar Pilkada debate is encouraged to be held outside the city.

"With the consideration that during the campaign period, there were a lot of violations related to the COVID-19 prevention protocol," said Abdul.

Previously, the first debate on the Makassar Pilkada was held on Saturday, November 7 in Jakarta. There was a stabbing incident of the sympathizer of the Munafri candidate pair Arifuddin-Abdul Rahman Bando (Appi-Rahman) outside the debate arena. The culprit has been caught.
