JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno invites the public to explore the natural beauty of Indonesia through Wonderverse Indonesia, a Metaverse made by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.
"Wonderverse Indonesia allows us to explore the beauty of Indonesia through the collaboration of technology, culture, natural beauty, and the creative economy," said Sandiaga, Thursday, August 11.
Sandiaga spoke online at "The 7th International Conference on Management in Emerging Markets (ICMEM) 2022" School of Business and Management, Bandung Institute of Technology.
The ICMEM 2022 event discussed the metaverse as a future technology in business and management in emerging markets.
Advances in digital technology encourage the increasingly popular use of the metaverse in Indonesia. Starting from the private sector, state-owned enterprises to the government have taken advantage of the metaverse for various purposes significantly.
Sandiaga said, a number of banks have also created a metaverse to run a business, including the creation of a virtual bank office. PT Telkom Indonesia (Telkom) is interested in entering the metaverse world by creating a virtual mall called Metanesia.
The government is also following the development of this virtual technology by designing the metaverse version of the new capital city. So people can first feel the situation of the new nation's capital city through the metaverse.
Sandiaga said, the digital economy has become a new force for the Indonesian economy. Currently, Indonesia has been ranked first in the growth of the digital economy in Southeast Asia.
The value of the internet-based economy in Indonesia has reached 70 billion US dollars and it is estimated that this value will continue to increase to 146 billion US dollars by 2025.
"Meanwhile, the value of digital investment in Indonesia reached 38.7 percent of the total digital investment in Southeast Asia," said Sandiaga.
ITB Chancellor Reini Wirahadikusumah said that human life today is increasingly using digital technology. ITB will also continue to learn to apply the metaverse in the world of education.
"Technology is developing, digital technology is being built so that the presence of the metaverse is not surprising," he said.
