DKI DPRD Checks How The Education Office Handles Intolerance Issues In Schools

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta DPRD oversees the handling of cases of alleged intolerance and discrimination that occurred in the educational environment of the Capital City. The DPRD wants to ensure that no person repeats this action at school.

"We are definitely monitoring this, this is not only the responsibility of the Education Office, but a shared responsibility," said Member of the DKI DPRD, Gembong Warsono at the DPRD Building, Wednesday, August 10, quoted from Antara.

He asked the DKI Education Office to apply strict sanctions according to regulations to individuals in education units who carry out intolerance, coercion, and discriminatory actions against students.

Specifically, the chairman of the PDI-P faction in the DKI DPRD has also clarified to the Head of the DKI Education Office, Nahdiana, regarding cases of intolerance, coercion, and discrimination.

His faction, he continued, received complaints from the public regarding acts of intolerance, coercion, and discrimination in ten schools in Jakarta from elementary to high school/vocational school during the 2020-2022 period.

Among the complaints that occurred in 10 schools, namely at SMA Negeri 58 Jakarta, in November 2020 there were unscrupulous teachers who forbade their students to choose non-Muslim OSIS chairmen.

Then, a complaint related to non-Muslim students at SMA Negeri 101 Jakarta who were required to wear a headscarf on Friday for uniform school uniforms.

Furthermore, at SMP Negeri 46 Jakarta, there was a complaint from a grade VII student who was verbally reprimanded for not wearing a headscarf in the school environment.

Repeated reprimands from the teachers made the student depressed.

Not only high school and junior high school levels, there were also complaints at SD Negeri 3 Cilangkap, East Jakarta in July 2022, namely that students were forced to take part in recitation activities at the prayer room.

On the other hand, the PDI-P faction, continued the member of Commission A of the DKI DPRD, also provides a complaint number that can be accessed for 24 hours via the WhatsApp number at 081363262299.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DKI Education Office, Nahdiana, explained that his party was taking action against one of the 58 Jakarta High School teachers by giving disciplinary penalties and transfers.

"We give disciplinary punishment and there is not enough disciplinary punishment, must be transferred," he said.
