A Total Of 91 Times The Earthquake Fell On Mount Merapi

JAKARTA - The Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) stated that Mount Merapi experienced 91 earthquake avalanches during the observation period on Sunday, November 15 starting at 00: 00-24: 00 WIB.

Head of BPPTKG Hanik Humaida said, apart from earthquake avalanches, during the observation period 230 times hybrid or multi-phase earthquakes were recorded, 49 gusts of earthquake, 36 shallow volcanic earthquakes, one low frequency earthquake, and one tectonic earthquake.

Based on visual observations at the active volcano, no solfatara smoke was observed.

During the observation period, it was mentioned that the sound of falling five times (weak to loud) was heard on the west slope of Mount Merapi from the Mount Merapi Monitoring Post (PGM) Babadan.

Next, the deformation rate of Mount Merapi was measured using Babadan's electronic distance measurement (EDM) an average of 12 cm per day.

The BPPTKG has raised the status of Mount Merapi to Level III or Alert. It is recommended that mining in the rivers that originate at Mount Merapi in a disaster prone area (KRB) III is recommended to stop.

BPPTKG asks tourism actors not to carry out tourism activities at KRB III, including climbing activities to the top of Mount Merapi.

The government of Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, Magelang Regency, Boyolali Regency and Klaten Regency, Central Java are also asked to prepare everything related to disaster mitigation efforts due to the eruption of Mount Merapi which can occur at any time.
