Kya-kya Chinatown Tour In Surabaya Will Be Inaugurated During RI's 77th Anniversary

JAKARTA - The Surabaya City Government inaugurated the Kya-Kya Chinatown tourist location on Jalan Kembang Jepun, at the moment of the 77th Republic of Indonesia's Birthday.

Head of the Surabaya Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports (Disbudporapar) Wiwiek Widayati in Surabaya, Wednesday, said Kya-Kya was the development of old city tourism in Surabaya.

"We will try to optimize the small part that is there, so that August can open," said Wiwiek, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 10.

Wiwiek said that apart from the arrangement, the Kya-Kya area was also equipped with Chinese specialties as well as artistic and cultural entertainment. This prepared show is packaged with a Chinatown-style concept.

In addition, he continued, his party is also in a position to open destinations that can be a support, including the house of the Abu Han family.

Currently, said Wiwiek, the Surabaya City Government is optimizing the area. The effort was made by beautifying the Kya-Kya area with colorful paints, murals and supporting exteriors.

"There has been an extraordinary change. We just have to complete it with painting, murals and so on. Today the mural and painting process," he said.

In addition to beautifying Kya-Kya, he said, the Surabaya City Government also connected it with the Kota Tua area on Jalan Karet and Jalan Gula. The concept of a tourist destination was made to make it more attractive, so that it ignited tourists to come.

"When Kya-Kya is opened, residents can walk to Jalan Karet-Jalan Gula. That's what we are trying to connect," he said.

In addition to adding an exterior that makes the Kya-Kya area more iconic, he said, the city government will also equip it with rickshaw transportation to serve tourists. By riding a rickshaw, visitors can enjoy the night tour route in the Kya-Kya area to the Old City.

"Later, there will be rickshaws that can serve tourist routes in Kya-Kya. So, in addition to culinary delights that can be enjoyed along the way, we will also display arts. For example, Lion Dance, Liang-Liong and Chinese-style music," said Wiwiek.
