Chili Prices In Cianjur Have Crawled Again Due To Scarcity, Now They Are Around Rp. 80,000 Per Kilogram

CIANJUR - The price of chili at the traditional market in Cianjur, West Java, has again increased from Rp60,000 to Rp80,000 per kilogram due to the lack of stock at the distributor and agent level.

Secretary of the Cianjur Industry and Trade Cooperatives Service (Diskoperindag), Wahyu said, chili prices had decreased from the last few weeks in line with the increasing stock of farmers' crops. Prices crept up again on Tuesday evening.

"A few weeks ago, prices were still quite high, especially for cayenne pepper which was sold for Rp. 120,000 per kilogram. Even though prices have skyrocketed, the level of demand is still high," he said in Cianjur, Antara, Tuesday, August 9.

According to him, the price of cayenne pepper and curly chili has increased due to limited stocks at the farmer level, most of whom do not get maximum yields, while the level of use, especially before the sacrificial festival, has increased quite high.

This condition affected the price in the market, which soared by more than Rp. 100,000 per kilogram for several weeks. However, as the weather transitions from rainy to dry, the stock has stabilized, although not completely.

"Only chilies and garlic are still expensive. Garlic per kilogram is sold for Rp. 27 thousand, which was previously sold below Rp. 20 thousand per kilogram. But for the stock of chilies and onions, we make sure they are still safe until the end of this month," he said.

A trader at the Pasar Induk Pasirhayam Cianjur stated that chili prices have risen again due to minimal stock at the agent and distributor level, while the level of usage and ordering is still high, although the increase in sales is still normal.

"We hope the price will not soar because it will have an impact on sales figures. Until the afternoon the sales figure will still be normal at 100 kilograms, although the price will rise to Rp 80 thousand per kilogram," said chili trader at the Pasirhayam Main Market, Rahmah.
