In Fact, The KPK Believes That Many People Are Optimistic About Its Performance

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said the public was still optimistic about its performance. This optimism is considered to be positive support.

This was conveyed by Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Sector Ali Fikri in response to the Kompas R&D survey. In the survey, it was stated that the anti-corruption commission's image was at 57 percent or the lowest for the past five years.

This survey was conducted by telephone interview by Litbang Kompas on 19-21 July. There were 502 respondents aged at least 17 years from 34 provinces who were interviewed.

However, the survey also noted that there are still 59 percent of respondents who believe the performance of the KPK will improve until the end of the term of office of its chairman, Firli Bahuri or in 2023.

"Based on a poll conducted by one of the national mass media, it is stated that the majority of the public is confident in the performance of the KPK in the future," Ali said in a written statement, Monday, August 8.

Ali then said that this belief was in line with the Anti-Corruption Behavior Index (IPAK) score recently released by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

Quoted from the agency, Ali said, there was a positive upward trend where there was an increase of 0.05 to 3.93 points compared to the previous year which was around 3.88 points.

However, he reminded the eradication of corruption can not be done alone. Not only that, Ali also said that enforcement cannot be a way to suppress corrupt practices in the country.

"Eradication of corruption is not only measured by the increasing number of corrupt perpetrators, but also how we can reduce the level of corruption together with all elements of society," Ali continued.

"Therefore, it is important for the KPK to strengthen the eradication of corruption not only through repressive strategies but also preventive and educative strategies simultaneously," he concluded.
