KENDARI - The Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police (Polda) arrested two students suspected of being traffickers of 5,214 grams or 5.2 kg of methamphetamine-type narcotics across provinces.

The Deputy Chief of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police Brigadier General Waris Agono said the two suspects with the initials GS (20) and FJ (21) were students at one of the leading public universities in Kendari City.

Both were arrested on August 1, 2022, at around 23.43 WITA, at City Hall IV, Pondambea Village, Kadia District, Kendari.

"The two suspects are couriers, dealers, and a network of narcotics dealers in Kendari. This is part of the inter-provincial network," he said when releasing the disclosure of the case in Kendari, Antara, Friday, August 5.

He conveyed that from the arrests of the two dealers, the Directorate of Narcotics Investigation of the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police confiscated evidence of 5.2 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine which was estimated to be worth Rp. 7.5 billion, 16 ecstasy pills, and one sachet of suspected marijuana weighing approximately 1 gram.

"This item (meth) actually came from East Java Province and then was brought to South Kalimantan and to Southeast Sulawesi and was circulated. Based on information from the public, members of Sub-Directorate 2 of the Narcotics Directorate of the Regional Police of Southeast Sulawesi followed, so it was successfully uncovered," he said.

From this case, the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police confiscated other evidence including an Iphone 13 mobile phone, an iPhone 13 mini, a bag, two packs of pipettes, a clear plastic bag, a plastic spoon, a savings book, and a suction device.

He added that from the results of the disclosure, it turned out that the two suspects had twice circulated the goods in the Southeast Sulawesi area, the first of which reached 10 kilograms, but escaped arrest by law enforcement officers.

He emphasized that the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police are committed to taking firm action against criminal acts related to drugs, whether they are users, dealers or dealer distributors.

"Believe me that every crime is not perfect and crimes leave traces. So if anyone wants to try this (distributors) we will definitely take firm action," he said.

The two suspects were charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) Subsidiary Article 112 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

"In Article 114 the threat is death, life imprisonment, or imprisonment between six and 20 years with a fine of Rp. 10 billion. In Article 112 paragraph (2), life imprisonment, a minimum of five to 20 years, and a fine of Rp. 8 billion," he said.

At the same place, the Director of Drug Investigation at the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police, Kombes Pol. Bambang Tjahjo Bawono, explained that the two suspects brought the illicit goods directly from the East Java area to be circulated in the Southeast Sulawesi region for communication with a dealer with the initial F who had been designated as a DPO.

"This shipment uses a courier service, while the person concerned is carrying methamphetamine along with his partner. We have designated his partner as a DPO, hopefully in the near future we can catch him," he said.

He added that the Southeast Sulawesi Regional Police are currently pursuing one of the DPOs with the initials F, who is suspected of being a dealer of illicit goods, including the accomplices of the two dealers. Both suspects tested positive for drugs.
