NORTH LOMBOK - A joint team from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) together with the community uncovered 18 illegal swings in the core zone and limited use of the Gili Trawangan National Water Conservation Area, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The KKP joint team consists of personnel from the Kupang National Water Conservation Area (BKKPN) Gili Matra Working Area, as well as members of the Marine and Fishery Natural Resources Supervision Unit (Satwas) of East Lombok, the Benoa Marine and Fishery Resources Monitoring Base (PSDKP), and Special Police for the Management of Coastal Zone and Small Islands (PWP3K).

The elements of the community groups that helped consisted of members of the Tramena Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis), the Gili Matra Monitoring Community Group (Pokmaswas), and the Trawangan Lang-Lang Group. All of them helped with the demolition which took place from morning to night.

"The effort to dismantle the swing is to continue the appeal letter that has been given to business actors who own swings, both hotels, resorts and restaurants," said the Coordinator of the Kupang BKKPN, Gili Matra Working Area, Thri Heni Utami Radiman, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, August 4.

He said that most of the business actors were willing to voluntarily dismantle with an initial commitment to remove the swings, while the physical buildings in the form of concrete poles and wooden poles that were permanently embedded, were given 7 times 24 hours of demolition time.

To maintain this commitment, said Heni, his party together with PSDKP Benoa and Polsus PWP3K conducted a surveillance report (BAP) on 11 business actors who owned swings installed in the core zone and limited use zone of the Gili Trawangan National Water Conservation Area.

"We have conducted a BAP with 11 entrepreneurs who build swings, a total of 18 swings, eight swings are in the core zone, the rest are in the limited utilization zone," he said.

He said the core zone of the national water conservation area should not have permanent or non-permanent infrastructure. Only research and educational activities are allowed.

His party is very concerned with the existence of swings, especially in the core zone because one of the conservation targets of the Kupang BKKPN is the seagrass ecosystem.

Reported by ANTARA, Seagrass beds are a typical ecosystem in shallow seas in warm waters with a sand bottom and dominated by seagrass plants, a group of plants belonging to the Alismatales nation that adapts to salt water.

Heni said that the seagrass beds in the area around the swing construction are often stepped on by users or swing users. This causes the condition of the seagrass to be damaged.

"It seems that there are some areas that have been slightly damaged because they are often trampled on," he said.

PWP3K Polsus Lalu Adrajatun, said the BAP was an effort to control that must be carried out as a follow-up to the results of several socializations given to business actors and an appeal from the Head of the Kupang BKKPN.

Head of the East Lombok Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision Satwas, Benoa PSDKP Base, Albertus Septiono, added that his party will oversee the commitment of business actors who will dismantle the physical building until the deadline given as stated in the BAP, which is 7 times 24 hours.

"Until now, we are still assessing the good efforts submitted by business actors, so we don't want to assume, and I believe business actors are very concerned with the natural preservation of Gili Trawangan waters," he said.
