JAKARTA - Commission III of the DPR has asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the Indonesian Attorney General's Office (AGO) to work hand in hand to arrest the fugitive high-profile corruptor named Surya Darmadi.

Currently, the owner of PT Duta Palma Group has been officially appointed by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) as a suspect in cases of alleged criminal acts of corruption and money laundering which cost the state up to Rp78 trillion.

The boss of the cooking oil producer is also on the KPK wanted list. To this day, Surya has not been found and is suspected of having fled to Singapore.

It is said that the figure of IDR 78 trillion is the largest corruption figure in the history of the country. Considering other mega-corruption cases such as Asabri, the loss was at Rp22 trillion, and Jiwasraya which reached Rp16.8 trillion.

Deputy Chairman of Commission III of the DPR RI Ahmad Sahroni asked the prosecutor's office and the KPK to immediately coordinate with the Singaporean authorities in order to repatriate Surya Darmadi who had greatly harmed the country.

“This figure of IDR 78 trillion is very large and really hurts our conscience. That's why we can't relax and let Surya Darmadi live comfortably in Singapore. Therefore, I urge the KPK and the Attorney General's Office to work together in their efforts to return Surya Darmadi to his homeland,” Sahroni told reporters, Thursday, August 4.

The NasDem politician assessed that with the extradition treaty between Indonesia and Singapore which was only signed by the Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H Laoly earlier this year, it would be easier to coordinate the return of Surya to his homeland.

"We already have the legal framework now, there is an extradition treaty, so I'm sure the efforts to repatriate him can also be more easily coordinated," said Sahroni.

"The important thing is that Surya can return to his homeland and be held accountable for his actions which are very detrimental to the country," said Sahroni.
