BUKITTINGGI - The Bukittinggi City Police, West Sumatra Police, are investigating the cause of death of a female student after she fell from the sixth floor attic at the Sumatra Thawalib Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes) Parabek, Agam Regency.

"It's true, it happened on Monday. We regret that there was no report from the Parabek Islamic Boarding School at the time of the incident. We carried out an investigation by examining the testimonies of several students who were with the victim and the board of the Islamic boarding school," said Banuhampu Police Chief AKP Yulandi as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, August 3.

The student with the initials MF (14), a 3rd grade Ponpes Sumatra Thawalib Parabek student from Painan, Pesisir Selatan fell after stepping on the attic on the sixth floor of the Women's Dormitory building, which is located in Banuhampu District, Agam.

At the time of the incident, it was discovered that the victim along with nine other female students climbed the attic on the top floor of the building for purposes that are currently being investigated by the police.

"All of the victim's friends are still traumatized. We asked for testimonies and information while they climbed the attic roof out of curiosity and wanted to see the surroundings from the top," he said.

The women's dormitory building, which accommodates up to 500 students, has a height of approximately 18 meters.

The Head of Public Relations of Ponpes Sumatra Thawalib Parabek Taufik Hidayat said that his party admitted negligence, because they did not inform the police about the incident because they were busy and panicked taking care of the female students who died.

"Indeed, we admit there was negligence, just today we reported it to the police and the Ministry of Religion, we made sure there was no intentional element of hiding the incident," he also said.

He said the victim's family also accepted the incident sincerely and did not sue the Islamic boarding school.

"We have met the victim's family in Painan, the victim was buried yesterday, Tuesday, the family is sincere because this is purely a disaster," he said again.

Taufik said the boarding school would evaluate and study again the discipline of the students and the security of the dormitory building so that a similar incident does not occur.
