BALIKPAPAN - Former Balikpapan Mayor Imdaad Hamid passed away at the age of 78 today after undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jakarta.

Imdaad's eldest son, Muhammad Dhimyatie Reza, said that his father died at 00.30 WIB.

"We as a family ask for forgiveness and apologize if our father made a mistake during his life," he said, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, August 3 afternoon.

Imdaad Hamid's body was flown from Jakarta to Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday morning.

Imdad served as Mayor of Balikpapan for the 2001-2006 period and was re-elected as the leader of Balikpapan for the 2006-2011 period.

Prior to becoming the Mayor of Balikpapan, he served as Head of the Public Relations Section of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government and Secretary of the Balikpapan City Government.

The man who was born on July 5, 1944 in Tenggarong has also been a lecturer at Mulawarman University.

Imdaad's wife, Mrs Aji Syarifah Azimah Hanoem, passed away due to illness in 2014. They are survived by four children.
