Lemkapi: Inspector General Ferdy Sambo Is No Longer Head Of The Special Task Force For The Police, Cannot Intervene Cases

JAKARTA - Executive Director of the Institute for Strategic Studies of the Police (Lemkapi) Edi Hasibuan said the inactive Head of the Profession and Security Police Division Inspector General Pol Ferdy Sambo is no longer the Head of the Special Task Force (Kasatgasus).

Thus, Edi explained, Ferdy Sambo could no longer intervene in the investigation into the shooting that killed Brigadier J.

"The position of Kasatgasus is an additional position as Head of Profession and Security Division of Polri. When the position of Head of Profession and Security Division of Police is revoked, the Kasatgasus position he holds will automatically disappear," said Edi in a written statement in Jakarta, Antara, Sunday, July 31 evening.

According to this former member of the National Police Commission (Kompolnas), the position of Kasatgasus is only functioned when necessary, for example when there is a disturbance in the national economy. He said the Task Force was created since the National Police Chief was appointed by General Pol Tito Karnavian and continues to this day.

When Ferdy Sambo became the Head of the Profession and Security Division, said Edi, he would automatically take up the position of Kasatgasus. On the other hand, when Ferdy Sambo has been deactivated from the Head of the Profession and Security Division, he will no longer hold the position of Kasatgasus.

"Without reducing my respect for Ferdy Sambo, he cannot suppress let alone intervene in this case," he said.

Ferdy Sambo also could not suppress the process of handling cases that involved him because the Head of the Special Police Team himself is a three-star general, besides there are several other star generals in the special team, he said.

"So the logic is, how is it possible that a two-star general without a position can intervene with the Deputy Chief of Police," said the academic from Jakarta's Bhayangkara University.

This police observer said that Ferdy Sambo's position was now stuck and he was just waiting for his fate to be revealed, especially since the case of Brigadier J's death had been withdrawn from the Metro Jaya Police to Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim).

"We are sure that the National Police Chief will take firm action against anyone who is proven to be involved and they will never be able to escape," he emphasized.

Edi said at first glance this case did seem easy because there were victims, the location was clear, and the perpetrators were also clear, but there was very little witness testimony and it was made worse by the condition of the damaged CCTV.

Previously, there was concern that Ferdy Sambo could put pressure on the National Police team that handled Brigadier J's death because he was considered to be still serving as the Head of the National Police's Task Force even though he had been deactivated as the Head of the Profession and Security Division.

He was deactivated from his position due to the death of Brigadier J who was shot and killed on July 8, 2022. This case caused a polemic because there was a problem with handling so the National Police formed a special team to uncover this case.

Brigadier J's body has also been re-autopsied in Jambi involving various independent forensic doctors from various agencies.
