Commemorating The Islamic New Year, Jokowi Hopes The Indonesian Nation Can Emigrate Towards Progress

JAKARTA - Today, all Muslims in the country commemorate the Islamic new year, 1 Muharram 1444 Hijriyah. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also invited the public to make efforts to be given health and sustenance.

"We are entering the Islamic new year, 1 Muharram 1444 Hijriyah, with all our endeavors, hopes, and prayers, so that all of us may be given the blessing of age, sustenance, and health", Jokowi said as quoted from his Instagram account, Saturday, July 30.

In his post on the @jokowi account, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta hopes that Indonesia can move towards progress.

"Hopefully this nation will have the strength and ability to emigrate towards progress", he said.

Similarly, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin hopes that Muslims in Indonesia can interpret this Islamic New Year as momentum to emigrate in a better direction as individuals, groups, and nations.

Because continued Ma'ruf, hijrah can not only be interpreted as moving from one place to another. Rather, hijrah is to make a complete change from a bad situation to a good one and even to a better one.

"I emphasize that in this Islamic New Year the integrity of the Indonesian nation is further strengthened, both through brotherhood among Muslims, fellow countrymen, and between humans", Ma'ruf wrote on his personal Instagram @kiyai_marufamin.

Ma'ruf appealed to all Muslims in the country to continue to pray to Allah SWT while asking for the safety of the nation.

"So that we, the Indonesian people, can overcome various challenges, both regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and all its impacts, the energy, and food crisis, and other challenges, so that we can become a stronger and more advanced nation", he said.
